An Alexander III late 19th century Russian 84 zolotnik silver and niello bachelor coffee set, Moscow 1888 by Gustav Klingert (active 1865-1917) Comprising a coffee pot, milk jug and a covered twin handled sugar bowl. Each of compressed globular form upon spreading feet. The coffee pot with a D section tubular handle with ivory insulators pinned to sockets, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable ivory compressed knop finial. The sugar bowl with a hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable stained ivory compressed knop finial. The coffee pot with all over engraved decoration of foliate forms (niello lacking), the milk and sugar with similar decoration in niello. Each engraved to the handled with initials S.C.L in bold script. Each fully marked (875 standard) for assayer for assayer Victor Savinsky (1859-94). (3) Coffee pot height – 13.8 cm / 5.45 inches Weight – 706 grams / 22.3 ozt The initials are for Sarah Cooper Locke (American 1868-1950), who married in 4th of June 1891 Charles Alexander Richmond (1862-1940), 10th president of Union College Schenectady, New York (1909-28).
