A Victorian sterling silver inkstand, London 1843 by Robert Hennell III Of shaped broadly rectangular form raised upon four openwork bracket rocaille scroll feet. The undulating acanthus scroll and rosette rim, flanked by two integral handles with poppy heads with rocaille underside. The sides with embossed decoration of floral sprigs within flat chased asymmetrical C scroll cartouches reserved with matting and lattice work. The terrace with two detachable retaining rims to support two cut clear glass inkwell of lobed form with ornate hinged domed caps surmounted by poppies, with a flower head and acanthus scroll edge. The centre of terrace with a detachable (wing nuts deficient) jar of inverted baluster form upon four rocaille scroll feet, decorated with similar embossed decoration, the pull off lid surmounted by a cast poppy. Fully marked underneath and to inkwell mounts, part-marked to central jar and inkwell lids, the central jar lid unmarked. Length – 39.2 cm / 15.5 inches Weight – 1641 grams / 52.76 ozt
