A TRADITIONAL DAYAK MANDAU SWORD
Borneo, late 19th century to early 20th century. The long single- edged iron blade and the nicely carved wooden hilt, depicting an “aso-dragon” (dragon dog), a mythical creature of the Dayak, attached with tufts of real animal hair. The wooden sheath, held together by three decorative rattan-strip knots and a braided raffia string.
Condition: Good condition with traces of age and wear, and loose tufts of hair.
