宝光虚空藏菩萨，是由宝生如来入如意宝珠三昧耶显现的。换句话说，宝光虚空藏菩萨就是宝生如来所变。另有称宝光虚空藏菩萨为南方满愿菩萨主富贵、财富。相传如为国家修习五大虚空藏秘法，可以预防天变、增益国运。如为个人所修，也有延年益寿、消灾增福 、灭七难、兴财富、得官位、消王难、灭疾病、兴眷属、得贵人人缘等。此尊菩萨与法国吉美博物馆中一件清康熙夹纻观音类似，可能为同一组。
