Each are similar in design to the present works but differ inpositional details. In the present works by one of Teniers’ many followers, the artist, as in the , has appropriated human forms to embody the essence of the four seasons: ‘Spring’ is a gardener carrying a young orange tree to plant in a formal garden; ‘Summer’ is a farmer harvesting the crop; ‘Autumn’ is an inn-keeper crowned with a wreath of vine branches and raising a glass of wine; and ‘Winter’ is an elderly bearded man in a fur cap and robe standing before a frozen village skating scene, with his coal brazier further emphasising the hards of the season.Please refer to department for condition report
