Heinrich August Georg Schiøtt, Danish 1823-1895- Portrait of a lady, standing three-quarter length in an interior, wearing a white dress and pearl necklace; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'August Schiott / 1851 & 1876' (on the wall panelling lower right), 130.5 x 98 cm. Provenance: Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 16 March 1989, lot 48.; Private Collection, UK. Note: Schiott's first portrait was conceived in 1844, two years before graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Thenceforth, he was to paint six to eight portraits a year. Overall, he exhibited over 150 portraits at the 'Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition', Copenhagen's annual exhibition, including several of the Danish Royal Family: Caroline Amalie of Augustenburg (three times), Prince Ferdinand, Princess Caroline and Prince (later King) Christian (IX).
