PROPERTIES FROM A NOTED COLLECTOR OF CHINESE EXPORT SILVER *A CHINESE EXPORT SILVER ‘DRAGON’ TEA CADDY AND COVER BY WANH HING & CO CHINA, CANTON / GUANGZHOU, LATE QING DYNASTY, EARLY 20TH CENTURY Of round shape, nicely worked in repousse to depict a flying four-claw dragon whose body is coiled around the box and a further flying four-claw dragon on the top of the lid. The base bears three (3) marks in total: the first one is a Chinese ideogram; the second one is ‘WH’ for Wang Hing, the company name; the third one may be read as ‘OG’ (), possibly the maker mark. H: 5,8 cm - D: 9,1 cm Weight: 186g Provenance: a noted collector of Chinese Export Silver wares. Note: The firm Wang Hing & Co. was established in Canton in 1854, by the wealthy Lo merchant family. It seems to also have been active in Hong Kong. The company was successful at exporting silver to Western countries and eventuality created some pieces for Tiffany & Co.
