A PALE CELADON JADE 'BUTTERFLY' BOX AND COVER, LATE QING DYNASTY China, 19^th century. The flat box is formed as a butterfly with the upper surface of the fitted cover attractively carved and incised as the body and patterned wings of the insect. The base of the box incised with a studio mark. The translucent stone of a celadon tone with pale russet shadings and cloudy inclusions.

Inscriptions: To base, 'Yong Zhai'.

Provenance: From an estate in Boston, USA.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor old wear and minuscule nicks. The stone with natural fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks over time.
