A YANGZHOU OLIVE-BROWN OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE, 1820-1860 China. Of flattened ovoid form, rising from an oval foot to a slightly waisted neck, carved in low relief through the olive-brown layer with variegated shadings to the white opaque glass depicting a fisherman on a boat, surrounded by lotus buds, birds, and a bat, the reverse with a horseman pulling a mule, above a bat and a gnarly branch.

Provenance: Jutheau, Paris, 21 November 1993, lot 17. French private collection, by repute acquired from the above (invoice lost). Thence by descent within the family to the last owner.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, minuscule nibbling.

Stopper: Glass in imitation of coral with bone finial, well carved spoon, the stopper with breakage and repair
