A LARGE SILVER REPOUSSE STATUE OF BUDDHA
Cambodia, post-Angkor-period, c. 15th-17th century. Standing on a circular lotus base, holding his right hand in abhayamudra, the protection gesture, dressed in a long robe with finely incised folds, a shawl hanging over the left shoulder, the face with a benevolent expression, almond shaped eyes below gently arched eyebrows, flanked by elongated earlobes, surmounted by a flaming ushnisha.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Excellent condition, commensurate with age. Some wear, casting flaws, few nicks and dents, light surface scratches, and traces of old soldering. The interior with ancient filling material.
