A GILT AND LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA, VIETNAM, 17TH-18TH CENTURY Carved seated in vajraparyankasana, his right hand in dhyanamudra and his left in vitarkamudra, his face set in a meditative expression, flanked by elongated earlobes, the hair tied and surmounted by a crown, dressed in a long flowing robe draped over the shoulders, opening at the chest to reveal a bejeweled torso.

Provenance: Dutch trade.
Condition: Fair condition with extensive old wear, small nicks and losses, one hand reattached, remnants of gilt, the lacquer coating re-applied multiple times across the centuries and thus with losses, abrasions, flakes, and minor heat damage, age-related cracks. Consistent naturally grown patina overall.
