A PAIR OF CHINESE LACQUER ‘SHOU-CHARACTER’ BOXES AND COVERS, QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY 清 十八世纪 寿字纹漆器盒盖 一对 Each box and cover formed in the shape of a Shou character, decorated to the flat cover with bats in flight amidst swirling clouds, the straight sides of the cover with further bats in flight above rocks and tumultuous waves, all reserved against a black ground (4) Dimensions: 35cm by 25.5cm Condition Report One cover has two circa 2.5cm wide crescent-shaped sections of restoration to the top edge, light scratching and rubbing to the decoration and minor nibbles to the extremities; the other cover has similar nibbles to the outer edges and rubbing to the decoration, a 9cm hairline to the top surface and a circa 20cm long age crack to the interior of the cover.
