Description A MIXED LOT WITH FOUR LACQUERED NOH MASKSJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912) and slightly laterOne mask showing Okina (old man), applied with white pigment, depicting the classical facial features with a broad nose, the mouth slightly open, and a black horse-hair mustache and beard. Next are tow Noh masks of Tengu, both with red, black, and gold lacquer, characteristically crafted with an exaggeratedly long nose, furrowed brows, flared nostrils, and a clenched jaw. The last Noh mask in the lot is of the divine hybrid human-bird create Gigaku Karura, covered as well in red, black, and gold, carved with a large prominent beak holding a golden pearl, showing big bulging eyes, and furrowed brows, the back of the mask with a label reading 'Karura' and a stamp.HEIGHT 20.2 cm – 29.5 cmCondition: Overall good condition with some wear, notches, small cracks, flaking to the lacquer, and the Okina mask with a chip to the lower edge.
