Description A BLUE AND WHITE IMARI PORCELAIN DISH 'SHISHI', EDOJapan, Edo Period (1615-1868), 19th century. Of lobed form, painted in underglaze blue with a shishi leaping mid-air above crashing waves, his face with a fierce expression and open mouth revealing sharp fangs, the curly mane detailed with spirals.Condition: Very good condition, some wear, light surface scratches, and manufacturing flaws including dark spots and spur marks.Provenance: From the collection of Teddy Hahn, Darmstadt, and thence by descent to the present owner.
