Description † HOZEN: A BLACK GLAZED AND SILVER ENAMELED PORCELAIN VASEBy Eiraku Hozen (1795-1854) Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868). The mallet-shaped body rising to a tall neck with everted rim, the neck and shoulder covered in a black glaze and painted in silver enamel with a phoenix in flight amid clouds above a band of key fret, the body covered in a fine grey speckled glaze. The underside bearing the artist signature EIRAKU HOZEN in red.
