19th-16th century BC. A carved haematite cylinder seal with figures and animals; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of haematite , 20 x 9 mm. Seated god, facing standing worshipper holding up animal head-(vessel?); terminal: running stag below calf. N.W. Iran or Anatolia, c. 1900-1600 B.C, Rare. Condition fine.' 3.77 grams, 20mm (3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent. Very fine condition.
