3rd millennium BC.A carved black limestone waisted cylinder seal with animal and geometric motifs; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of back stone, concave sides, 19 x 18 mm. Cow feeding calf, grid above, four shields. Syrian, c.2900-2700 B.C. Rare, but worn. W.G. Lambert.' 9.52 grams, 20mm (3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent. Fine condition.
