2nd-1st millennium BC. A ceramic vessel with bulbous body and strap handle, applied finely-detailed spout depicting a stylised lion with its mouth open exposing the sharp teeth, painted details to the mane and neck; the body of the vessel decorated with a band of painted cross-hatched triangles, rosettes between, semicircles with radiating lines below; two bigger rosettes to each side of the spout and a band of small triangles to the upper body; the handle decorated with hatched lines in a frame. 1.2 kg, 20cm (8"). Property of a UK gentleman; acquired in 2010 from a Mayfair gallery; previously in an old UK collection. Fine condition.
