Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC. A stone figure of a seated cloaked female with serpentine body decorated with bands of alternating hatched and plain triangles, separate carved marble flat-topped head with fine facial detailing, pierced eyes and void to the rear of the head. Exhibited by Safani Gallery, 12 November 1998 - 20 January 1999; published in Acts of Faith: Idols of Ancient Cultures, New York, 1998, p.11. 469 grams total, 89mm (3 1/2").Property of a London gentleman; previously with Bonhams, London, 2 October 2014, lot 105; formerly with Safani Gallery, New York, USA, 1998; acquired from Mehdi Mahboubian, New York, USA, 1970s; originally from Gallery Rosen Ancient Art, New York, USA, 1968; accompanied by copies of the relevant Bonhams catalogue pages and copies of the catalogue produced by Safani Gallery (1998-1999) and three old museum quality photographs; supplied with geologic report No. TL005211, by geologic consultant Dr R.
