Description
Translation provided by Youdao
17th-early 18th century AD. A squat bronze jar with flared neck and chamfered rim, band of reserved floral detail to the shoulder, narrow neck with guilloche bands, reserved Hebrew calligraphic text for 'Yeshaya (Isaiah) and Sophie, with love' or 'Yeshaya (Isaiah) will increase love', with two extra letters at the start and end of the final word, suggesting that it was made by someone who did not speak the language well; to the underside an arabesque panel with incised Hebrew inscription. 1.9 kg, 24.5cm (9 3/4"). Property of a central London collector; formerly with Mahboubian Gallery, London, UK; acquired before 1972. Very fine condition.
