2nd century AD. An iron spatha blade, lentoid in section with flared shoulders and bulb to the tip, substantial square-section tang with pinned terminal. Cf. Bishop, M.C. & Coulston, J.C.N. Roman Military Equipment From the Punic Wars to the Fall of Rome, London, 1993, item 77(5"). 598 grams, 81cm (32"). Found on a Roman site near Harston, Cambridgeshire, UK, in the 1990s. Fine condition.
