A substantial iron spearhead comprising a leaf-shaped two-edged blade with short neck, octagonal-section tapering closed socket with applied ring and integral lateral loop; mounted on a custom-made stand. See Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940. 1.6 kg total, spearhead: 37.5cm (14 3/4"). From the family collection of a South East London collector; formerly acquired in the late 1950s. Fine condition. Professionally cleaned and restored.
