A gold belt hook comprising a tongue-shaped plaque with beaded border, openwork image of a profile gryphon with cross to the shoulder and banded wing, volute scroll to the short edge developing to a sturdy hook with flared finial, three attachment loops to the reverse. 24 grams, 63mm (2 1/2"). Property of a European businessman; from his private Belgian collection formed in the 1990s; previously in a North American collection formed in Illinois in the 1980s. Very fine condition.
