Moghul Empire, 16th-18th century AD. A segmented iron helmet comprising ten trapezoidal iron panels linked to each other with thick butted mail rings and dependant from a discoid crest with cruciform cage above; lateral triangular ear-flaps, nasal bar with recurved eye-guard panel; incised amuletic text to each of the panels, arabesque to each ear-flap, guilloche to the nasal with calligraphic text; mounted on a custom-made stand. 4.8 kg, 48cm high including stand; helmet 29cm high (19 1/4; 11 1/2"). Property of a London collector, acquired early 1990s. Fine condition.
