A distinguished Brescian small-sword with undulating edges and apostles' blade, circa 1680/90 Narrow thrusting blade with a flattened medial ridge and fine waved edges. Finely etched embellishment with a depiction of the twelve apostles down the entire length on both sides, the sturdy ricasso with scrolling bands, decorative tendrils and a lens-cut flower. Remnants of gilding. Iron knuckle-bow hilt with a double-sided guard plate. Entirely covered in finely chiselled and openworked décor with a depiction of riders amidst leafy vines. The grip spirally fluted with iron wire winding and Turk's heads. Round, openwork pommel. Length 97.5 cm.A unusual, early small-sword, wrought with exceptional workmanship and in excellent condition.
