German photographer, born in Cologne. He studied at the Ecole Nationale de la Photographie in Arles (1991-92). In Düsseldorf he continued his training at the Kunstakademie with Bernd Becher. He then spent some time in Tokyo, thanks to a scholarship. His urban photography is part of the industrial objectivity of the Düsseldorf school, under the tutelage of the Becher couple. Heiner Schilling s work reflects the urban and technological changes brought about by the 1980s and 1990s, marked by growing global capitalism.
