Size: 100 x 81 cm; 120 x 121 cm (frame). Salvador Victoria trained between Valencia and Granada, and in 1951 he held his first individual exhibition at the Círculo Artístico in Granada. In 1956 he moved to Paris, and the following year he was awarded the Painting Prize of the Cité Universitaire in Paris. Around this time he began to hold exhibitions in various European countries, both alone and with the other members of the Tempo group. Later he also exhibited in Japan and Brazil, and with Ruedo Ibérico in Mexico. He received the Grand Prize for Painting at the Zaragoza Art Biennial in 1972 and the Cross of San Jorge from the Diputación de Teruel in 1987, among other prizes, and is currently represented in important collections such as that of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, as well as in the museum that bears his name in Teruel. His work is characterised by a balanced structure and a composition in which spaces are defined by spheres, ovals and enveloping forms. For many years Salvador worked within these spatialist and cosmic tendencies, a path which he later abandoned in favour of a fresher and more spontaneous work, where gesture and colour play a very important role, with references to the world of Zen. In this second stage, forms such as the sphere persisted. He used various media, such as collage.
