A LARGE FAMILLE ROSE 'FLORAL TERRACE' BOWL Qianlong period, circa 1745 Painted in rich enamels with a fenced garden terrace scene centered by a pale-blue pierced rockwork with peonies, hibiscus and chrysanthemum and smaller flowers that reach around the vessel but do not meet, in the space between flits a colorful butterfly above a loose flower spray, the interior of the bowl also powerfully painted at the center with another composite scrolling design of peonies, hibiscus and chrysanthemum, the well plain and the interior rim painted with eight pendant scrolling cartouches with flowers and an iron-red cell ground. 15 3/4in (40cm) diam Footnotes: 乾隆時期 約1745年 粉彩牡丹花卉紋大碗 References: Nadler, 2001, p. 76, an almost identical bowl reputed to have belonged to the Peale family of artists in the US; Gyllensvard, 1990, p. 112, fig. 228, an identical bowl.
