Description: Carved in wood, painted in red pigment over gesso and with features highlighted in black ink. Gilt-metal eyes and golden teeth and fangs. Impressed seal signature on the reverse. Condition: General wear, with minimal loss along edges; cracked and chipped paint, mainly in the protruding parts; good, old usage patina at the back on the inside; fixed break in the jaw and one gilt metal eye lost- otherwise in good and complete condition Provenance: From an important Austrian private collection acquired before 1930 A similar mask was sold at Christie’s, 14th September 2011, lot 664.
