Chinese Qing Dynasty Kangxi Emperor Reign period Carp vase. Stunning Chinese Large porcelain rouleau vase, colloidal gold imagery. A cylindrically shaped vase, tubular body, long straight neck forming into a slightly flared rim, with a concave footed base. The exterior decorated with big carp swim on then main body. The carp is accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. Gilt images are painted on top of a rich blue underglaze. Masterfully covered in an even coat of a deep blue glaze which terminates at the base to reveal the pure white underglaze. The blue glaze creates a mottled effect around the rim which is likened unto the blushing of human skin. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the receded central interior base left white underglaze. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
