A Chinese jade gui-shaped incense burner dating from the Ming dynasty. The incense burner is carved with Chilong-headed handles, the body has a grain pattern ground, and the top band has additional carved Chilong heads with incised stylized beasts. Dimensions are: 2 3/4 inches tall X 7 1/2 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Age appropriate wear. Provenance: From Dr. Kuo in Chicago, by descent from his father-in-law (Shen Zhongtao, 1892-1980), writer of the "Hua Ying Yi Jing" and "Yi Gua and Science," who collected books in China prior to 1949, using the money he earned working in the Commercial Press, Qiming Bookstore in Shanghai.
