|Myanmar/Burma, probably from Mandalay. Late 19th c.|Bamboo and lathed wood. Relief in thayo lacquer with residue of former gilding. With glass inlays (hman zi wei cha sh), partly in cut shapes. The decoration on the outside is masterfully designed with singha lions and fighters in medallions, surrounded by flower borders. Today, the gold is almost completely worn away, a beautiful contrast to the parts lacquerd bright red and the inlaid glass. Height 71cm, Ø 38cm.
