Provenance: By descent from the sitter's sister Mary who married Thomas Trench Berney (1784-1869) Condition report: Oil on canvas which has a recent wax-resin lining. The picture is in plane and the paint layer is stable. The painting has numerous areas of brushy retouching which have discoloured and lightened over time, becoming visually distracting. The varnish is clear and even although slightly dull. There is a layer of surface dirt across the surface. The frame is in a good condition overall.
