Dimensions (cm): Length: 62 Width: 47 Height: 122.5 Pair of Chinese Ming Dynasty Period Zitan arm Chairs. Each chair had arm handrails that were slightly rounded out on the lips. Hard mat seat square and the gracefully curved splat carved. On the back there is a rectangular support with carved scrolling ruyi clouds and tendril. Raised with four strong straight legs and bridged by sturdy stretched bars to two sides that conjoined each leg, the whole supported on legs of rectangles square section joined by stepped stretchers on hoofed foot. This Chinese chairs gives a strong and antique impression of luxury. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus. The lumber is blackish-purple in hue, and its fibers are loaded with deep red pigments which have been used for dye throughout the ages. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance. The Zitan round armchairs shows smooth lustrous patina, dense hardwood with feathery fine grain. Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
