A LARGE mid 19th century ENGRAVED GILT BRASS oval STRUT TIMEPIECE Thomas Cole, London, no. 1586. Retailed by Thomas Boxell, Brighton The case with Greek key engraved edge framing a running pattern of flowerheads ribbon-tied at VI, the gilt oval dial with Roman numerals and minute track framing the original fleur-del-lys hands, centred by a floral group including carnations, daisies and tulips, the mask of foliate strapwork on a hatched ground, signed in a polished cartouche for the retailer, the shaped movement with four turned pillars, spring barrel to a plain three-arm monometallic balance and English lever escapement, repeat signed on the backplate 'Boxell, Brighton'.
