A roiro (black-lacquer) saya (sheath) inro By Kajikawa Shoshin (Akinobu), after a design by Kano Naonobu (1607-1650), Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century The saya decorated with Hotei and two karako (Chinese boys), one dancing on the reverse, the outlines of the figures inlaid in slivers of shell with accents of coloured and gold lacquer, each case divided in two sections and lacquered red; inscribed Naonobu with a kao. 5.1cm (2in) high. 注脚 Provenance: Soame Jenyns Collection.
