Nine fuchi-gashira (hilt collars and pommels) Edo period (1615-1868), 18th to 19th century Seven of shibuichi, one of shakudo, and one of copper, decorated in a variety of chiselling and inlay techniques, the first with masked dancers in shojo (drunken sprite) roles, signed Tsunenao with a kao; the second with Raijin the Storm God in clouds and a group sheltering from the rain, signed Goto Kojo; the third with a tengu-masked armed retainer of Sojobo the Tengu King and a group of men carrying a palanquin, signed Hisamitsu with a kao; the fourth with the race across the Uji River, signed Nara Naoyoshi tsukuru (Made by Nara Naoyoshi); the fifth with the same subject; the sixth with two mounted figures and a bridge; the seventh with the Chinese warrior Hankai with a broken-down door under his arm making a dramatic entrance at the Komon Banquet, signed Saiunken Katsutoshi with a kao; the eighth with the Rashomon demon racing away in a cloud carrying its severed arm and the hero Watanabe no Tsuna, with signature Mito no ju Michitoshi saku (Made by Michitoshi of Mito); the last with Chinese heroes of the Three Kingdoms reading a scroll, with signature Joi and stamped number 53.
