A mounted Koto wakizashi (short sword) The blade by Kanemoto, Muromachi (1333-1573) or Momoyama (1573-1615) period, 16th century; the mounts: Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century The blade of shinogi-zukuri form with torii-zori, chu-gissaki, and mitsu-mune, sanbon-sugi ha of nioi, mokume-hada, midare-komi boshi, the ubu-nakago with one mekugi-ana and higaki file marks, signed Kanemoto; koshira-e (mounts): the saya (scabbard) of roiro lacquer; the shakudo tsuba (sword guard) carved, pierced and inlaid with a village scene by a winding stream; the Mino-Goto kozuka shakudo nanako ('fish-roe' dot pattern), with a man and boy seated in a pavilion admiring chrysanthemums growing by a stream, with rich gilt details; the shakudo fuchi-gashira (matching hilt collar and pommel) carved and inlaid with a nobleman, probably Yoshitsune, playing the flute and his running horse, signed Kusano Hirotsugu tsukuru, with shakudo and gilt-metal menuki (paired hilt ornaments) of flower arrangements; with storage bag, Token Society of Great Britain blade certificate and NTHK certificate for the mounts.
