Two Satsuma vessels and covers By Kinkozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Each decorated with enamels and gilt all on a blue ground decorated with fragmented geometric and floral motifs, the first of European shape, with two rounded rectangular panels enclosing a family fishing by a river and a warriors seated in front of a jinmaku (war curtain) around a Shinto ritual warding off bad omens, signed on the foot with seal Kinkozan, 18cm (7 1/16in) high; the second of squat and compressed form, with two shaped panels, depicting a family gathered around a hibachi (brazier) and the other of three shirabyoshi (court dancers) entertaining warriors at a battle camp, signed on the base Kinkozan within a fan-shaped cartouche; 10.2cm (4in) high.
