A Satsuma conical bowl Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in enamels and gilt, the interior depicting a seated armoured soldier praying before Ryuto Kannon (Kannon standing on a dragon) emerging from the sea, amidst turbulent waves applied in ceramic high relief around the rim creating a 3D effect, the exterior with enamelled arabesque foliate motifs beneath a rim decorated with a band of stylised clouds, the foot encircled by a repeated stylised foliage and flowers; unsigned. 5cm x 14cm (2in x 5½in).
