A Satsuma cylindrical koro (incense burner) and silver cover By Hozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in enamels and gilt with a continuous winter scene of three courtiers dressed in sumptuous costume on horseback during a hunting excursion in the New Year, birds in flight above and clumps of young pine above the foot, with a silver cover reticulated in the form of a chrysanthemum blossom; signed on the base in gilt Hozan beneath the characteristic Shimazu crest. 12cm (4¾in) high.
