A stone figure of the Virgin and Child, presumably Burgundy, circa 1390/1410 Carved in the round and partially freestanding. Extensive remains of uniform older polychromy. A depiction of the Virgin Mary designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She holds the infant Christ, who in turn holds a bird in His hands, to one side over Her hip and a lily in Her extended right hand. The Virgin is clothed in a veil, a floor-length girded gown and a richly draped cloak. The design of the figure points towards an origin in Eastern France or Burgundy, and the gently swaying S-form pose speaks for a date of around 1400. The end of the lily stem presumably lost. Minor wear throughout. Two drilled holes in the tops of the heads. Height 92 cm. Provenance Private collection, Switzerland. Wohl Burgund um 1390/1410, Madonna mit Kind Stein, vollrund und teilweise freiplastisch bearbeitet. Große Reste einer älteren und einheitlichen farbigen Fassung. Auf Vorder- und leichte Unteransicht gestaltete Darstellung der Muttergottes, die das einen Vogel in seinen Händen haltende bekleidete Jesuskind hoch und seitlich über ihrer Hüfte trägt. In ihrer vorgestreckten rechten Hand hält Maria eine Lilie, sie trägt einen Schleier, ein gegürtetes bodenlanges Kleid und einen um ihren Körper drapierten faltenreichen Umhang. Die Gestaltung der Skulptur verweist auf den Kunstraum Ostfrankreichs und des Burgund, wobei der ausgeprägte und elegante gleichmäßige S-Schwung der kontrapostischen Haltung eine Datierung um 1400 nahelegt. Unteres Ende des Lilienstengels wohl verloren. Nur geringfügige Bestoßungen. Zwei Bohrlöcher auf den Oberseiten der Köpfe. Höhe 92 cm. Provenienz Privatsammlung Schweiz.
