Since she was a woman, she was not allowed to attend the academy and so she received her first artistic training from her father Wilhelm Preyer, whose style she adopted and developed further. Thus, she too preferred the still life genre with fruits and insects, but her colour palette is more rich in contrast, not least because she usually uses a white cloth as a background for her arrangements. The present work is not listed in the monograph by S. Weiß / H. Paffrath (op. cit.), but several very similar paintings can be found there. Emilie Preyer begann schon als Kind Zeichnungen und Aquarelle zu malen. Als Frau hatte sie keinen Zugang zur Akademie und so erhielt sie ihre erste Ausbildung bei ihrem Vater Wilhelm Preyer, dessen Stil sie übernahm und weiterentwickelte. So bevorzugt auch sie das Stillleben-Genre mit Früchten und Insekten, doch ihre Farbskala ist kontrastreicher, nicht zuletzt, weil sie meistens ein weißes Tuch als Unterlage für ihre Arrangements verwendet. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist nicht in der Monographie von S. Weiß / H. Paffrath (op. cit.) gelistet, allerdings sind dort verschiedene sehr ähnlich Werke zu finden. Unser Gemälde vereint alle Elemente, die für die Werke dieser Malerin charakteristisch sind.
