A HONGMU ALTAR COFFER, 1900sChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The rectangular-panel top supported on recessed square corner posts, the single drawer above the pair of doors fitted flush around a removable center stile, with reticulated spandrels below the projecting top on either side of the drawer, the coffer fitted with brass mountings.Condition: Commensurate with age, natural age cracks, minor splits and gaps as expected, few small losses, the spandrels reattached, old wear and traces of use, few shallow surface scratches. Weisbrod is a noted scholar of Chinese art, who has published extensively on the subject over a time span of more than 50 years. In 1972, Michael joined his father Dr. Gerald Weisbrod’s Asian art gallery in Toronto, Canada.
