A BAMBOO ‘DRAGON AND TIGER BRUSHPOT, BITONG, c. 1920sChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Of cylindrical form, carved in relief with two scenes, one depicting two warriors battling a tiger, the other with two warriors fighting a dragon. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, natural age cracks, a tiny nick to the mouth rim. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
