A LARGE CARVED BUFFALO HORN WITH CRANES AND LOTUS, QINGChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The tusk with pronounced curvature, densely carved in openwork with cranes amid lotus blooms and leaves, all above incised waves. The horn of a brown to reddish color. Condition: With some wear, encrustations, cracks and few chips and losses, overall, still good condition. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
