A NEAR LIFE-SIZE GOLD LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN, QINGChina, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The temple guardian depicted standing with legs slightly apart on an oval base, wearing an elaborate chain-mail armor secured at the waist with a belt centered with an impressive lion mask, the flowing celestial scarves billowing above the head and trailing to the ground, his left hand holding a pearl, the right raised used to hold an attribute that is now missing. The face with a stern expression marked by intense almond-shaped eyes below painted brows, a broad nose, and full lips, surmounted by a tall helmet.Condition: Overall good condition. Some scattered losses here and there, few repairs and losses to the lacquer as visible on the images. Provenance: Austrian private collection.
