A RARE NEPALESE STONE STELE OF VEENADHARA SHIVA AND UMANepal, 17th century or earlier. Depicting Shiva playing a veena while embracing his consort Uma seated on his lap, Shiva is shown here in Asthadasabuja form with 18 hands, 16 of which holding various attributes including an axe, a trident and damaru, with their respective vahanas: the bull nandi and the lion. The central image is atop a lotus throne and within an aureole with flaming border. Veenadhara shiva in the form of Dakshinamurthy is normally depicted alone, making this example as a couple extremely rare. Condition: Very good condition, with some wear, and minor losses. Provenance: French private collection, acquired in the German auction market. Weight: 1601 g Dimensions: Height 16.5 cm
