AFTER HU YEFO (1908-1980), LADY LAYING AGAINST BAMBOOChina, 20th century. Ink and watercolors on paper. Inscribed including the artist name Yefo and bearing one red seal. Finely painted with a seductive maiden outstretched against branches of bamboo, wearing flowing draperies and a peony in her hair, all in a walled courtyard with a large moon window. Framed in a vintage frame, behind glass.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, soiling, and slight foxing and creasing.Provenance: US trade.Dimensions: 43 x 34 cm (image cut-out), 74 x 61 cm (frame)Hu Yefo (1908-1980), also known as Hu Ruofo, was born in Jinyao, Zhejiang. A graduate from Xinhua Art in Shanghai, he is famous for his paintings featuring elegant women with flowing lines, but also for perfecting a style for illustrating modern Chinese comics based on Han and Tang paintings.
