A GLAZED EARTHENWARE ROOF TILE, MING DYNASTYChina, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Modeled from earthenware with a curving tile and a frontal lobed frieze decorated with a lotus bloom and scrolling tendrils, the frieze covered in a finely crackled bright celadon glaze. Condition: Good condition with old wear, traces of use, firing flaws, and few glaze flakes to the lower area. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
